Memberships and International Partners
On the one hand, CIAS is a member of traditional regional studies associations such as the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Lateinamerikaforschung (ADLAF), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Amerikastudien (DGfA), and the Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO). On the other hand, it also contributes to the institutionalization of area studies in the German research landscape and participates in the reorientation of regionally conceived research associations – for example, in the association CrossArea e.V., of which CIAS is a founding member.
Another focus of CIAS's work is in the area of international networking. The management of the International Association of Inter-American Studies is based at Bielefeld University, and there are numerous cooperation agreements with universities and research institutions in the Americas.
